South Street Transportation Study
The scope was to design a streetscape, signage, lighting, paving, and traffic signals for South Street – a location defined both by its industrial past and promising future in the heart of Indianapolis’s growing convention- and visitor-driven economy. A2SO4 collaborated with community leaders and creative professionals and realized several options to encourage smart growth and living amidst South Street’s sea of parking lots and imposing electrical lines. These options came together with the recommendation of a downtown urban park – spanning ten feet by five blocks down South Street. Using scraps of recycled Indiana limestone and an integrated system of undulating native grasses, the park will create both a natural space for wastewater and run-off and be a conceptual thread connecting the city’s past and future.
