Blackshell
Blackshell is an interior architecture renovation within an existing 100-year-old Military Artillery Equipment Mule Barn. This project is located in the services area of historic Ft. Benjamin Harrison. The barn’s existing character is a mix of quirky charm and a rough structural system, which is preserved, allowing the history of the facility to be apparent throughout the finished space. The reuse of blue porcelain enameled steel grain silo panels, an oak basketball / gymnasium floor, oak school classroom doors, and an oak stair railing system completed the nostalgic yet unique space for Held Diedrich. This project was a 2005 Excellence In Architecture Merit Award Winner.
